Concerning the 1981 movie
This is partly a response to a previous post by Vanhees Benoit on June 8, 2008. I also watched the 1981 movie with Robert Mitchum and Richard Burton and see nothing on here about it, only the 1950 movie. At any rate, this is a pretty good WWII movie concerning events around the time of D-Day. Apparently some of Hitler's generals were planning to off Der Führer as the Germans were retreating on both fronts. I'm not sure if this is true but it's certainly feasible. In the movie one of these generals sends a sergeant (Burton) to negotiate a total cease-fire with an American colonel (Mitchum), as plans are unfolding to kill Hitler. Of course the generals were foiled and Hitler lived, and we all know what happened after. A decent if not overwhelming WWII epic concerning a unique subplot in the overall final Nazi defeat.
